Mac Cleaner Guard works entirely on your Mac. It scans your disk, shows you what can be reclaimed, and only removes what you approve — moving it to a Managed Trash you can undo. This page explains how to get started, how the safety model works, and how to reach us.

Getting Started

  1. Run a scan: Open the tab you want — Cleanup, Duplicates, Offload, or Security — and start a scan. Scanning is read-only, so nothing changes on disk while the app looks.
  2. Review the results: Each item shows a risk level and, where useful, a Dry Run of what a cleanup would do. Nothing protected or risky is selected for you automatically.
  3. Clean, then recover if needed: Approved items move to Managed Trash. Use the History screen to undo and restore anything until you decide to purge and free the space for good.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will Mac Cleaner Guard remove something I still need?
It is designed not to. Reproducible caches and build artifacts are marked Safe; items that deserve a second look are marked Confirm; anything you add to Protected is blocked from removal entirely. Even after a cleanup, items sit in Managed Trash so you can restore them.
How do I get a file back after cleaning?
Open History, find the action, and choose Undo. Cleaned and offloaded items are restored from Managed Trash. Space is only freed permanently when you explicitly purge.
How does verified Offload work?
Offload copies a large file or folder to another volume, verifies the copy with a full SHA-256 hash, re-checks that the original has not changed, and only then moves the original to Managed Trash. If verification fails, the original is left exactly where it was.
What does the Security scan report?
The Security tab runs a local scan for unprotected passwords, tokens, and private keys, and shows each finding with the secret value redacted. It never uploads content, never logs raw secrets, and never deletes a file automatically. Suggested actions are safe and manual, such as revealing a path in Finder or protecting a file.
Does it clean Homebrew, Docker, and Xcode?
Yes. Where possible it uses each tool's own official cleanup commands, groups reproducible artifacts such as caches and old simulator runtimes, and keeps active toolchains protected. You confirm before anything is removed.
What about System Data and iCloud?
macOS system data is never mass-deleted. Sensitive areas such as iCloud Drive, Mail, Messages, and device backups are report-only, and iCloud placeholder files are never downloaded just to scan them.

Risk Levels and Managed Trash

Every item carries a risk level so a removal is never a mystery:

  • Safe: reproducible data such as caches and build artifacts that the system or your tools can recreate.
  • Confirm: items that are usually fine to remove but deserve a quick look before you approve them.
  • Protected: paths you have shielded, which are excluded from cleanup, duplicate, and offload results.

Cleaned items move to a Managed Trash rather than being erased. From History you can undo and restore them. Purging is a separate, explicit action — it is the only step that frees space permanently.

Privacy and Local Processing

All analysis runs on your Mac. Cleanup, duplicate detection, offload, memory insight, and the security scan do not require network access and do not send your file contents anywhere. See the Privacy Policy for details.
